About Stone Paper

Stone paper is a sheet like paper that does not use cellulose fibers as it main components like conventional papers. This paper technology is totally different from the paper-making technology that has been known now. It was found on the 21st century in China. Stone paper does not use water at all in its production process. It is made of inorganic mineral coming from calcite rocks; so that's why this paper is called 'rock paper' or 'stone paper'. Can you imagine how this paper is made? In principles, stone papermaking is started with the mixing fine powder of calcite rock with non-toxic resin, such as HDPE (high density polyethylene), as well as other additives, then melted at high temperatures and formed into a sheets like paper. The properties of stone paper are almost similar compared to conventional paper and even it have some advantages. This paper is claimed more environmentally friendly since it does not use plant fibers as raw material, no water involved in its' production process, can be recycled and produces low greenhouse gas emissions.
